THE PROCESS

A clear path from observation
to improvement.

The Yap Twins approach looks at the whole player: what is happening now, what needs attention and how training should evolve as the player improves.

Assess

Understand the player's starting point.

Good coaching begins with observation. The coach looks at technique, footwork, movement, timing and how the player responds during drills or match situations. The aim is not simply to find faults. It is to understand which areas will make the biggest difference to the player's development.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

What we
look at.

Progress is rarely about one thing. Good player development looks at how technique, movement and decision-making work together.

Technique

Develop clean mechanics, timing and efficient stroke production.

Footwork

Build balanced movement patterns that help you arrive early.

Movement

Connect court coverage, recovery and direction changes.

Control

Improve placement, touch and repeatable shuttle control.

Match play

Apply skills to decisions, pressure and changing rallies.

Fitness

Build the movement capacity to train and compete well.

THE ORIGINAL SAMS SYSTEM

Progress that
parents could see.

Yap Twins developed the Student Achievement and Monitoring System (SAMS) to make player development clearer for coaches, students and parents.

Examinations were conducted three times a year, with report cards used to identify areas for improvement and help parents follow a player's progress.

Regular reviewProgress was reviewed through scheduled assessments.

A CLEARER NEXT STEP

Better players understand
what they are working on.

Structured coaching gives players a clearer sense of what needs to change, why it matters and what to work on next.
